Overview:
A recently refreshed, very useable Cobra with a tuned Chevy mated to a smooth & fast changing auto gearbox. Yes it’s fast and noisy, but built to be used and easy to drive, you can leave it in drive and just enjoy all that torque or shift through the cogs with the Hurst shifter. It has been fitted with adjustable power steering and both a removable hardtop and full wet weather gear. Modern infotainment was installed for navigating on longer road trips & touring and comfortable heated seats with headrests have been fitted.
It is correctly registered as a 1998 AK Cobra, with a statement of origin from AK Sportscars, so should be eligible for importation to many countries such as Australia/Hong Kong/United States/New Zealand/Canada and in a couple of years a host of European countries which has historically increased the value of a Cobra significantly.
The V5 & clear HPI report shows it is free from any accidents, theft of outstanding finance and shows 3 previous keeper. The first keeper kept it for 5 years from its build date to 2003, the second keeper was for over 14 years and the third owner was for the next 5 years. The vehicle has been marked ‘in the trade’ with me since 2022 to avoid adding an extra owner whilst in storage and having the works carried out.
I have carried out a fully documented restoration & modernisation totaling over £27,000 to include the following:
+ Full respray of the car and hardtop by Automotive Finesse
+ Fitment of a removable Le-Mans Hardtop with leather headlining by 427 Hardtops
+ Interior re-trim by Intatrim to include heated Solar seats (with headrests) and fully patterned dash, door cards, tunnel, bulkhead, and even a leathered boot lid!
+ Fitment of in-phase component & tweeter speakers mated to a high quality touch screen Sony head unit with DAB, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto functionality
+ Extensive mechanical works & upgrades including an almost total re-wiring
We have put over 150 hours into upgrading & future proofing the car as it’s intended new home was the hot & humid and traffic filled Hong Kong so utmost reliability and usability were core to the re-build. I have had the pleasure of selling over 200 Cobra recreations over the last couple of years during my time with the UK’s largest specialist so have the knowledge and connections to ensure the above works were carried out to the highest standards.
The hardtop is simple to remove and easy to lift by two people. The car also has full wet weather gear comprising of a mohair hood with side screens and a tonneau cover.
Engine & Drivetrain:
It has covered a healthy milage of just under 25,875 miles, I can say with great experience that for reliability Cobra’s like to be used rather than seeing the road for a few hundred miles a year and stood up for the rest! Since leaving my storage I have covered almost 200 exciting and trouble free miles, with a zero fault checkover before and after.
Present in the file is strong MOT history dating back to 2006, and documented maintenance history.
Over the last 2 years I have put over 150 hours into maintenance, upgrades and fresh wiring with around £3,000 spent. In 2018 it had a fresh water pump and replacement engine & gearbox gaskets and fluids and a year later a rear diff. oil change. In 2022 I sold the vehicle during my time working with Total Headturners, it went through an intensive post sales checkover with any issues addresses such as a replacement windscreen along with fresh coolant & oils and an MOT.
The awesome tuned 350ci 5700cc Chevrolet V8 takes centre stage in the polished aluminium lined engine bay. Fitted with a chrome air filter with performance element and custom AK high output rocker covers. It’s well dressed with aluminium pulleys header tank, alternator cover, washer bottle and pipe work. Holley 4 barrel carb, Edelbrock Performer RPM intake manifold, aluminium performance headers and an Hei distributor. I am working on evidencing the fitment of Trickflow 23 degree aluminium cylinder heads and Comp Cams upgraded camshaft’s.
The exhaust is 4 into 1 stainless steel with big bore side pipes and is fitted with heat guards.
The suspension is fully adjustable coilovers front and rear, with disc breaks front & rear and the trusty XJ6 differential.
Exterior:
Almost £12,000 was spent to Finished in the stunning BMW Le-Mans Blue with BMW Alpine White II stripes and an outer pin stripe. When painting a GRP car you really do get what you pay for, and a huge amount of man hours went into prepping the body before it hit the booth.
The wheels are 17” Image Hallibrand replicas with faux spinners and black painted centers.
Detailed with chrome over riders and rar bumoer, triple stainless steel wipers,twin single leg stainless steel roll bars, clear front indicators triple stainless steel wipers, Blue tinted sun visors, polished aluminium stone guards, Monza fuel filler frenched into the drivers side rear wing.
Interior:
The interior really is a work of art thanks to a £5,000 transformation bythe talented team at Intatrim using high quality leather throughout. The dash layout was re-designed to allow fitment of the head unit and covertly placed amplifier/speakers. The headlining and inner boot lid have been trimmed in fluted leather to match the seats and the boot has been fully carpeted with leathered covers for the fuel pump recess and fuel pipe.
The seats are Intatrim’s own very comfortable ‘Solar’ design and benefit from removable headrests and two stage heating on both sides. Fresh Sparco Martini Racing 3 point harnesses were fitted for better safety and ease of use over a 4 point set up.
The seats are currently on runners which are easily removable to lower the seating position depending on your height. A quick release removable steering wheel boss is very useful, allowing much easier access to the cabin (especially with the hardtop fitted) this is something I am happy to arrange.
